Kid’s Dental Checkups & Cleanings

Routine dental checkups and cleanings matter greatly for children; developing smiles are susceptible to virtually all issues that affect adult smiles. To add to that, children often aren’t quite as tuned in when it comes to oral hygiene and need the assurance that regular preventive care can be provided. During these visits, our team can utilize X-ray imaging coupled with a thorough oral examination to scope out any issues with your child’s teeth, gums, and other oral structures. We’ll also clean their teeth of built-up plaque and tartar!

Dental Sealants

Dental sealants are highly recommended for children because of their efficacy when it comes to preventing cavities. These protective coatings are made from biocompatible materials that shield the chewing surfaces of the back teeth since these are normally more vulnerable to bacteria. The process for applying them is also incredibly straightforward and noninvasive. Just keep in mind that these don’t act as substitutes for brushing!

Silver Diamine Fluoride

Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is a mixture of silver and fluoride that’s used to remineralize tooth enamel, which on its own isn’t able to regenerate. It also can combat the harmful oral bacteria that are responsible for cavities, meaning that it’s generally viewed as a preferable alternative to drilling cavities. For children who might already be anxious about seeing the dentist and having a cavity treated, this is a major plus.

Non-Nutritive Habits

Of all the habits that children develop, there are none as prevalent as thumb sucking. However, it’s not something that should continue past the age of 3 or 4, as it can actually lead to orthodontic issues and other dental developmental problems later in life. If we’ve identified a non-nutritive habit such as thumb sucking, we can come up with a plan to get things resolved and ensure that moving forward, your child isn’t inadvertently endangering their smile.

Athletic Mouthguards / Sportsguards

If your child likes to stay active or participate in sports, you should know that they’re at an increased risk of dental injury! Just one foul ball or misplaced elbow to the face is all it takes for a dental emergency, but these scenarios can often be mitigated with an athletic mouthguard. These are designed to fit your child’s smile comfortably and provide a greater level of protection than store-bought varieties.
